Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and the state’s efforts to curb the rising number of cases, it is unlikely that the cinemas will open up anytime soon. But, on the bright side, many streaming platforms allow you to have the whole cinematic experience while in the comfort of your own home.

In that honor, we’re counting down some of the best movies that are coming to your streaming platform in May 2021.

The Boy from Medellin

The movie follows the story of a Colombian Reggaeton singer J Balvin who prepares for his 2019 homecoming concert amid intense political turmoil. Directed by Mathew Heineman, the movie shows a positive response according to the critics at Rotten Tomatoes, who scored the film a solid 79%. It is set to release on May the 7th, 2021, on Amazon Prime. J Balvin fans, this is your calling.

The Last Detail

An American classic, The Last Detail is a 1973 film directed by Hal Ashby, starring Jack Nicholson and Randy Quaid. The movie is an adaptation of a book holding the same title. It features a story of two navy seals who are given the task of bringing a convict to prison. If this type of story is something you enjoy, you can catch it on the Criterion channel available from the 1st of May.

Cruella

Just like every superhero has an origin story, a villain does too. A spinoff from the Disney film 101 Dalmatians, Cruella focuses on the origins of its villain, Cruella De Vil. The live-action film is directed by Craig Gillespie with a star-studded cast, including Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. The movie is set to be released on Disney+ and will be available for you to watch from May 28.

We Are What We Are

What is the point of watching movies if some of them aren’t horror? This next pick is for horror and thriller fans. Directed by Jorge Michel Grau, the movie was released back in 2010, and it garnered the critic’s praise, with a 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie follows the story of a family that has a special secret. When the father dies, it is upon Alfredo to take upon the responsibility of his siblings and mother but, those responsibilities are unlike any other.
