Allen Funt was the long-standing host for Candid Camera
Candid Camera was developed, created, and hosted by Allen Funt back in 1948 and he remained the host until 1992! The show was a smash hit with the premise of having a hidden camera and the ‘actors’ would pull pranks on strangers. It made famous the phrase ‘Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!’ as the unsuspecting citizens found out they were being tricked. Main host Allen Funt initially started his career for an advertising agency before moving into radio and finally into TV. The success of Candid Camera provided him with steady paychecks alright. Funt died in 1999 at 84 years old.
