High Cost, Low Return: Why You Should Reconsider Attending These Colleges!

Paine College – Augusta, Georgia

Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, boasts an impressive claim to fame: John Wesley Gilbert, the OG African-American archaeologist, learned his trowel-wielding ways there in 1886. Pretty rad, right? But fast forward to 2016, and the college lost its accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Though they snagged another accreditor, the graduation rate hovers around a dismal 20 percent.

Students are coughing up $97.5K for four years at this historically Black Methodist institution, hoping for a degree that screams “success!” But 20 years later, the return on investment is -$94.7K. Talk about a student loan hangover that never ends.
