Mermaids! Mermaids!
Once upon a time, Disneyland was renowned for its ‘live mermaids’ who would amuse and delight visitors by flipping their fins while soaking up the sun in the blue lagoon. However, Suzanne Brewster, a former ‘mermaid’ at the park, revealed that the lagoon’s water was too chilly for their liking, prompting them to spend most of their time perched upon the rocks instead.
In the summer of 1959 and during three other seasons between 1965 and 1967, the live mermaids made their enchanting appearance in Tomorrowland. However, despite its initial success, the attraction was forced to close due to extended exposure to chlorine.
