There aren’t many weather stories in Britain. However, one will live on in the memories of those who witnessed it. This was ‘The Great Storm’ of 1987, a storm that wreaked havoc, bringing down trees and tearing fragments off buildings.

It claimed roughly 18 lives and destroyed about 15 million trees as wind speeds attained 115 miles per hour. On October 15, 1987, a woman called the BBC worried that a storm was about to come. Her concerns were casually rejected by the weatherman at the time, Michael Fish, who was constantly reminded of his gaffe that led to the terrible situation.
