This Girl Followed a Puppy Into an Alley—Then Disappeared From Maps
The Fourth Key
On Thursday, Lila skipped the bus and walked straight to the alley once school was over. This time, the door was gone. There was no sign it had ever existed. Just a clean stretch of brick wall was left. But when she pressed her hand to it, something clicked inside the wall. Soft and mechanical.
She reached into her pocket. The black iron key felt warm. She didn’t know what the first three keys were or who had them. But the whisper remained in her head. She’s the fourth key. Maybe the clue wasn’t about an object. Perhaps she was what the door had been waiting for all along.
