When Your Child Is Just Not Into It

General airline rules dictate that a child needs to be at least five years old or older to fly solo. Kids from five to seven years of age can take direct flights, but cannot travel in connecting flights. It is most likely mandatory that their adult guardians handle all arrangements.

Some airlines allow kids who are eight or older to charter flights that require aircraft change at some point but with airline personnel escort in-between. However, these rules are sometimes much more strict. For example, Southwest Airlines do not allow minors, five to eleven, to change planes. They also do not allow any international flights without their legal guardian present.
