The Chinese are a proud country who love their language and are proud of their heritage. While admirable, this has led to them having very few people who speak decent English. To make matters worse, since China is a popular international travel destination, they have to accommodate tourists. It has led to an endless stream of mistakes in the translation that often have dire consequences, like this one, for instance.
However, this perhaps does not even cut it, as some of the Chinese airport signs seen online make even worse mistakes. There are photos of similar signposts saying stuff like “Deformed Man Toilet” for the disabled people, “Poisonous & Evil Rubbish” above a trash bin, and perhaps the best of them, “Delayed due to some reasons” for a flight delay.
