Christopher Atkins was earning his livelihood as a sailing instructor when he auditioned for the modestly-budgeted romantic survival movie “The Blue Lagoon,” and the rest is history. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the “cheesecake male” generation in American film history, the actor quickly became a teen idol for his Adonis look and high-pitched voice. He later became a pool builder.
His co-actor Brooke Shields invited Atkins on her podcast in 2022, and both agreed that the movie would not be allowed today for various reasons. They also recalled how the producers desperately wanted them to be romantically involved off-screen, but that didn’t happen.
