The Priciest Military Vehicles in The U.S. Arsenal Will Boggle Your Brain
Lockheed Martin VH-71 Kestrel – Cost: $241 Million
The Lockheed Martin VH-71 Kestrel was initially planned to replace the aging fleet of Sikorsky VH-3D Sea Kings in service for the President of the U.S. This is why it was developed with advanced avionics, communications, and security features, and a design based on the AgustaWestland AW101 helicopter.
Unfortunately, the VH-71 program was ultimately canceled in 2009 due to cost overruns and delays. But despite this, many of the technologies and systems developed for the project have been incorporated into other military and civilian helicopters, such as the UH-60 Blackhawk and the AW101 Merlin. Nevertheless, it highlighted the challenges of developing complex military aircraft and the importance of cost control.
