Elvis certainly held the merit of his indisputable talents, like his dancing skills and beautiful voice, but everyone needs some sort of guidance in order to succeed. Throughout his life, Presley could always count on the support of his parents, Vernon and Gladys (depicted above) or his wife Priscilla.
But Elvis’ stardom was mainly guided by the decisions of his agent, the infamous Colonel Tom Parker. A former circus worker, Parker was the man responsible for turning Elvis into an overnight worldwide sensation. But he was also a controversial figure that, amongst other polemic acts, did forbid Presley from performing live outside the United States.
