Alan met his future wife Arlene Weiss while he was attending college. As the couple later revealed, they connected while they were on a dinner party one night. A cake fell on the floor accidentally and they were the only ones who were still happy to eat it. They got married in 1957, one year after Alan graduated, and have been together since. Arlene Alda worked as a photographer and a musician, while she also wrote children’s books. They have three daughters and now have eight grandchildren. In 2017, they celebrated sixty years of marriage.
