Former MLB star Roberto Clemente spent around seventeen years playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He placed his baseball career on hold back in 1958 because he decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He reportedly reached a private first class rank.
During the later years of his life, he dedicated most of his time to charity work. When he was on his way to Nicaragua in 1972 to help the victims of an earthquake, his plane crashed, with him finding a tragic and unexpected death. He was only 38 years old when he died.
