Rare Pictures of Elvis Presley That Show The Rare Human Behind The Legend

The Comeback

In 1968, Elvis Presley was no longer the same young man that inspired every American teenager and that danced furiously to the beat of Jailhouse Rock. The US had a new booming generation of youngsters that was deep into the Free Love movement and psychedelic, drug-crazed rock, both of which didn’t seem to include Elvis.

Since Elvis had been absent from any sort of public performance and TV appearance since 1961 (one year after being discharged from the military), this NBC 1968 comeback special turned out to be a seminal moment, and arguably the reason why the King wasn’t solely a ’50s phenomenon.
