While adult magazines have definitely been neglected since the creation of the Internet, those stuck out at sea no doubt would tend to have an odd copy of Playboy or its equivalent stashed away somewhere. Hugh Hefner launched Playboy in 1953 – partly funded by a $1,000 loan from his mother. The men’s magazine proved incredibly successful globally. The success of Playboy could be linked to the fact that Marilyn Monroe, who needs no introduction, graced the cover of the maiden issue. Given her huge stature in the world at the time, this practically made Playboy explode on the market.
