Whitey Ford is part of the list of popular athletes who served in the Army during the Korean War. He had already started his career in Major League Baseball with the New York Yankees a year prior to enlisting in the Army in 1951.
He was in service just until 1952 and was later back to playing for the Yankees by 1953. Even if he was quite ill when he went into retirement, he still had a good track record, having been a six-time World Series champion and a ten-time All-Star.
