The Birth of a Star
Vernon and Gladys Presley married in 1933 in the County of Pontotoc. They were so young that Gladys even had to lie about her age during the ceremony (she was just 17). Gladys became pregnant with Elvis in 1934; at that time, the couple struggled financially and worked in any odd job they could find. They’d only reach some stability later in life, thanks to the meteoric success of their first-born son.
In this picture, taken when Elvis was only two years old, Vernon and Gladys hold their first son. They had no idea he would later turn out to be one of the biggest stars to ever grace the planet.
